RACHEL QUARRY: One of the Six Illustrators Chosen for SCBWI-BI's Undiscovered Voices Anthology 2012

* Congratulations, Rachel, on achieving a coveted place in Undiscovered Voices 2012! and welcome to tall tales & short stories.
The floor is yours, please tell us all about yourself, your journey as an artist/illustrator and anything else you'd like to add.

I studied Fine Art at Middlesex Uni and focussed on painting, printmaking and drawing.

My interest in Illustration has been growing ever since and I am now working towards a diploma in Childrenʼs Book Illustration.

I have two young children who provide lots of inspiration.

* Could you tell our readers all about the story behind your chosen entry, and most importantly why they are going to love your work!

By the Light of the Moon

The character in my illustration is from a childrenʼs story I had written about a baboon who alienates his neighbours on the savannah with his dreadful singing. Eventually he wins back their friendship when he discovers another talent.

The subject matter seemed to fit with the theme ʻUndiscovered Voices,ʼ so I made the picture and sent it in. The story is supposed to be funny, so my aim was to convey that humour in the drawing.
